The patient journey is changing. How consumers interact with the healthcare system is a massive challenge. Both payers and providers are embracing the need to satisfy the healthcare consumers of today and are laser focused on providing a full end-to-end experience. While organizations are taking on this massive challenge, they are grappling with identifying key performance indicators that will help them truly reflect the impact being made. One underpinning theme throughout is the necessity to create a collective ecosystem. It requires clinical, financial, technology and many other supporting players to effectively work towards effective, cohesive, and impactful solutions.

Patient experience, the core of quality care

DXC perspective

DXC believes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies have the potential to transform healthcare by deriving new and important insights from the vast amount of data generated during the delivery of healthcare every day. Additionally, AI could assist medical staff in diagnostics decision making. In that way, medical device manufacturers are using these technologies to innovate their products to better assist healthcare providers and improve patient care. However, the industry and regulators still struggle with creating a framework that will create value and ensure patient safety as this article points out.

Voice of the consumer

DXC perspective

Enhanced consumerism, highly segmented consumer preferences, driven by inbuild diversity and a heavy influence of Patient acuity Pyramid on touchpoint preferences are keeping the health systems on their toes. As health systems gear up to reframe their engagement strategies that support increased footfall and brand loyalty, it is important to closely listen to patient preferences and design operations and technology complimenting the voice of consumer. Across the consumer prism, there is a growing focus on location of service delivery (e.g virtual or in-person) as well as ease of consumption. This is pushing the health systems’ technology arms to roll out consumer facing tools that are easy to use. This article provides a great lens into data interpretation of “voice of the consumer.”

Patient-centricity in pharma

Harnessing patient-centered science to improve health outcomes and commercial pharma success (appliedclinicaltrialsonline.com)

DXC perspective

Patient-centricity in pharma is finally breaking through from the abstract into mainstream aspects across the product lifecycle. The change is accelerated by increased patient health literacy and maturing technologies to effectively capture patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in clinical trials. There is now a deliberate movement to build foundational elements that incorporate direct patient feedback across the product value cycle. The end result is a win-win for both the patients and the pharma business.

Patient-centered care

Patient experience, a more formal concept of late, has been an area of focus for decades, though not labeled as such. Often misconstrued or confused with patient satisfaction, patient experience is truly about how well the healthcare experience is handled. From timeliness of appointments to communication to access to data, etc. By correlating and understanding patient experience with other quality outcome metrics, vast improvement and focus can be given to patient-centered care.
