Regulatory and compliance

Four key challenges in sustaining compliance in the medical device industry (article in Today’s Medical Developments)

DXC perspective

To meet the challenges of sustaining compliance in the medical device industry, it is imperative to create future-resistant data and cybersecurity strategies. Having structured, collaborative and cross-functional data and cybersecurity practices is important, especially to prepare for data-related regulations and global standards that continue to change and to implement risk-based supplier management. To tackle complexity, leaders can explore adopting AI or machine learning tools to automate data audits, security and compliance and free up resources to focus on more strategic tasks.

This DXC-sponsored Reuters Events paper examines the need and opportunities for automation in the pharmaceutical industry.

The way life sciences businesses and regulators collaborate to bring safe new therapies to market is ripe for transformation. Digitization and automation offer speedier creation, submission and querying of the volumes of documentation inherent in research and commercialization.

Disruptive technologies in life sciences

Four technologies set to disrupt the life sciences — and how pharmaceutical companies can prepare (article from Forbes.com)

DXC perspective

Innovation is at the heart of the life sciences business. The industry is poised to make significant leaps in bringing breakthrough therapeutics to market faster with disruptive tech such as quantum computing, blockchain, 3D printing, IoT and natural language processing. Underpinning the success of all such technology initiatives is the maturity of data technologies (big data, cloud, integration, collaboration) and what DXC refers to as data metabolism — the ability to serve up relevant data and insights at the right time and speed to the right people.

Interoperability: Smart use of data for better outcomes

The power of sharing information and tapping into the data generated across entities that touch healthcare is limitless. Instead of looking at adapting to the bulk FHIR API standard merely to comply with mandates, healthcare providers and payers should look at unleashing the full potential of this information sharing. As the post-pandemic era takes shape, we realize the critical role of insights that can be underpinned by seamless data exchange, and its role in providing the right insights for patient populations to enable the right care and outcomes. DXC believes that organizations should not just solidify their use of FHIR, but continue to accelerate their use of data science, AI and machine learning to enhance care delivery.

Health equity

While mobile healthcare has been around for years, the pandemic highlighted its potential to address health equity concerns. As emphasized throughout the article, a key component to the success of mobile clinics is a high-performing, well-planned community outreach program. Bringing healthcare into a community or into an individual’s home can be invasive, and it requires a lot of trust. Providers are challenged with the analytical components of mobile healthcare, such as tracking ER cost reductions that result from providing preventive care, as well as the soft skills of engaging with prospective patients on terms very different from what providers may be used to. While it can be a tough nut to crack, it’s the way to encourage early detection, prevention and access to healthcare.
